1 – First of all, I read that your origins are Italian. I also discovered a TV series in which you and your first husband took a tour around Italy to visit, among lots of other places, Riposto, the small town near Catania where your grandparents came from. What are your impressions and feelings about Italy?
Yes, that’s true – my Italian roots are very important to me. Visiting places, where my grandparents come from, was a really emotional and special experience.
Italy has such a unique atmosphere – the warmth of the people, the passion, the way life is lived. It feels very familiar to me, almost like a second home.
Being there always reconnects me with that part of my identity, and I carry a lot of that emotion and passion into my music as well.
2 – I also read that your passion for music was practically born with you. What is your first memory involving music and singing?
I think my passion for music really was there from the very beginning. As a little girl, I was always singing and putting on little “performances” for my family. But there was one funny thing – everyone had to turn around while I was singing. No one was allowed to look at me, because I was so shy back then.
It’s kind of funny when I think about it now, standing on big stages today.
3 – Back in 2011 you took part in “Deutschland Sucht den Superstar”, and in the end you came second. What can you tell us about that experience, what it taught you and what it meant for your career?
That experience changed my life completely. It was the starting point of everything for me. I was very young at the time, and suddenly being on such a big stage taught me a lot – not just about music, but also about handling pressure, criticism, and growing in public. It definitely shaped me as an artist and as a person. Looking back, I’m very grateful for that journey, because it gave me the foundation for everything that came after.
4 – Speaking of your career, you are a real multitalent: singer, actress, voice actress, TV entertainer… Which one of these is your favorite?
Music will always be my biggest passion – singing is where everything started for me, and it’s still what feels most natural and closest to my heart. But I also really love exploring other areas, like acting or being on stage in a musical. It allows me to express myself in different ways and grow as an artist. So while music is my core, I enjoy the variety and everything that comes with it.
5 – Back to last February: what was your first thought as you realized that you had been chosen to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest?
Honestly, my first thought was: Is this really happening? It felt a bit surreal in that moment. Then it quickly turned into pure joy and gratitude. All the hard work, all the emotions – everything just came together at once. It was a very special moment that I will never forget.
6 – Your song is called “Fire”, and it describes the anger of a girl who’s been betrayed. Tell us a bit about both the lyrics and the music, and what this song means to you.
“Fire” isn’t just about anger – it’s more about everything that comes with being hurt: disappointment, doubt, but also the strength that can grow out of it. The lyrics tell a story of finding your way back to yourself after difficult moments, of letting go of what holds you back and reconnecting with your inner power. Musically, it builds from a more vulnerable, emotional beginning into something strong and uplifting.For me, the song is very personal – it’s about growth, self-belief, and turning pain into strength.
7 – So, now you are in Vienna, diving into the Eurovision mood… How are you feeling? What are your impressions and expectations?
It’s an incredible feeling to finally be in Vienna. You can really feel the Eurovision energy everywhere – it’s something very special. There’s a mix of excitement, gratitude, and of course a bit of nervousness, but in a positive way. I’ve been working towards this moment for a long time, so it’s amazing to finally experience it. My expectation is really just to take it all in, enjoy every second, and create a moment on stage that people can truly feel.
8 – About the other participants, is there someone you particularly like, someone you would like to perform a duet with, and why?
There are so many great artists this year, it’s really inspiring. I especially love how many strong female performers are part of the competition. If I had to choose, I think a duet with one of the amazing women from Bulgaria, Australia, or Cyprus would be incredible. They all have such powerful energy and presence on stage. I think combining that kind of female strength in one song could create something really special.
9 – Apart from Eurovision, which kind of music do you usually listen to? Favorite artists?
I really love music from the 2000s – that’s what I grew up with, so it has a very special place in my heart. And I’ve always been inspired by strong female artists like Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, and Christina Aguilera. Their voices, their power, and their presence are just incredible.
10 – Last but not least, what are your plans for the future?
After Eurovision, I’m really looking forward to getting back on stage in Moulin Rouge! as Satine. That role means so much to me, and I can’t wait to dive back into it. At the same time, I’m working on new music and planning what’s next for me as an artist. I would love to do more live shows and maybe even a tour. So there are a lot of exciting things ahead, and I’m just really grateful for everything that’s coming.

1 – Prima di tutto, ho letto che le tue origini sono italiane. Ho anche scoperto una serie TV in cui tu e il tuo primo marito avete fatto un viaggio in Italia visitando, tra tanti altri luoghi, Riposto, il piccolo paese vicino a Catania da cui provengono i tuoi nonni. Quali sono le tue impressioni e i tuoi sentimenti riguardo all’Italia?
Sì, è vero, le mie radici italiane sono molto importanti per me. Visitare i luoghi da cui provengono i miei nonni è stata un’esperienza davvero emozionante e speciale.
L’Italia ha un’atmosfera unica, il calore delle persone, la passione, il modo in cui si vive la vita. Mi sembra molto familiare, quasi come una seconda casa.
Essere lì mi riconnette sempre a quella parte della mia identità, e porto molta di quell’emozione e passione anche nella mia musica.
2 – Ho anche letto che la tua passione per la musica è nata praticamente insieme a te. Qual è il tuo primo ricordo legato alla musica e al canto?
Credo che la mia passione per la musica ci sia stata fin dall’inizio. Da bambina cantavo sempre e facevo piccole “esibizioni” per la mia famiglia. Ma c’era una cosa divertente, tutti dovevano girarsi mentre cantavo. Nessuno poteva guardarmi perché ero molto timida allora.
È buffo pensarci oggi, visto che ora mi esibisco su grandi palchi.
3 – Nel 2011 hai partecipato a “Deutschland Sucht den Superstar”, arrivando seconda. Cosa puoi raccontarci di quell’esperienza, cosa ti ha insegnato e cosa ha significato per la tua carriera?
Quell’esperienza ha cambiato completamente la mia vita. È stato il punto di partenza di tutto per me. Ero molto giovane e trovarmi improvvisamente su un palcoscenico così grande mi ha insegnato molto, non solo sulla musica, ma anche su come gestire la pressione, le critiche e la crescita davanti al pubblico.
Mi ha sicuramente formato come artista e come persona. Guardando indietro, sono molto grata per quel percorso perché ha gettato le basi per tutto ciò che è venuto dopo.
4 – Parlando della tua carriera, sei davvero poliedrica: cantante, attrice, doppiatrice, entertainer televisiva… Quale di queste è la tua preferita?
La musica sarà sempre la mia più grande passione – cantare è da dove tutto è iniziato per me, ed è ancora ciò che mi viene più naturale e che sento più vicino al cuore.
Ma mi piace anche esplorare altri ambiti, come la recitazione o il teatro musicale. Mi permette di esprimermi in modi diversi e di crescere come artista.
Quindi, anche se la musica è il mio centro, apprezzo la varietà e tutto ciò che ne deriva.
5 – Tornando a febbraio scorso: qual è stato il tuo primo pensiero quando sei stata scelta per rappresentare la Germania all’Eurovision?
Onestamente, il mio primo pensiero è stato: “Sta succedendo davvero?”. In quel momento sembrava un po’ surreale.
Poi si è trasformato rapidamente in pura gioia e gratitudine. Tutto il duro lavoro ed emozioni si sono riuniti in un istante. È stato un momento davvero speciale che non dimenticherò mai.
6 – La tua canzone si chiama “Fire” e descrive la rabbia di una ragazza tradita. Raccontaci qualcosa del testo, della musica e di cosa significa per te.
“Fire” non parla solo di rabbia, riguarda tutto ciò che accompagna il dolore: delusione, dubbio, ma anche la forza che può nascere da queste esperienze.
Il testo racconta la ricerca di sé stessi dopo momenti difficili, il lasciare andare ciò che ti trattiene e riconnettersi con la propria energia interiore.
Musicalmente, parte in modo più vulnerabile ed emotivo e cresce fino a diventare qualcosa di forte e positivo.
Per me è una canzone molto personale, parla di crescita, di fiducia in sé stessi e di trasformare il dolore in forza.
7 – Ora sei a Vienna immersa nell’atmosfera dell’Eurovision… Come ti senti? Quali sono le tue impressioni e aspettative?
È incredibile essere finalmente a Vienna. Si sente davvero ovunque l’energia dell’Eurovision, è qualcosa di speciale.
C’è un mix di entusiasmo, gratitudine e anche un po’ di nervosismo, ma positivo. Ho lavorato tanto per questo momento, quindi è bellissimo viverlo finalmente.
La mia aspettativa è semplicemente godermi tutto e creare un momento sul palco che le persone possano davvero sentire.
8 – Tra gli altri partecipanti, c’è qualcuno che ti piace particolarmente, qualcuno con cui ti piacerebbe fare un duetto? Perché?
Ci sono tantissimi artisti fantastici quest’anno, è davvero stimolante. Adoro soprattutto quante performer femminili forti ci siano.
Se dovessi scegliere, mi piacerebbe fare un duetto con una delle incredibili artiste provenienti da Bulgaria, Australia o Cipro. Hanno tutte una presenza e un’energia potentissime sul palco.
Unire quella forza femminile in una canzone potrebbe creare qualcosa di davvero speciale.
9 – Al di là dell’Eurovision, che tipo di musica ascolti di solito? Artisti preferiti?
Amo molto la musica degli anni 2000, è quella con cui sono cresciuta e occupa un posto speciale nel mio cuore.
Sono sempre stata ispirata da forti artiste femminili come Beyoncé, Whitney Houston e Christina Aguilera. Le loro voci, la loro forza e la loro presenza sono incredibili.
10 – Infine, quali sono i tuoi progetti per il futuro?
Dopo l’Eurovision, non vedo l’ora di tornare sul palco in Moulin Rouge! nel ruolo di Satine. Questo ruolo significa molto per me e non vedo l’ora di interpretarlo di nuovo.
Allo stesso tempo, sto lavorando su nuova musica e pianificando i prossimi passi della mia carriera. Mi piacerebbe fare più concerti dal vivo e magari anche un tour.
Ci sono tante cose entusiasmanti all’orizzonte e sono davvero grata per tutto ciò che verrà.
